Films for the festival are sourced through an open call, so filmmakers can put their own work forward directly. It is advertised across Phomolong, Matjhabeng, the wider Free State and nationally.
Who should enter
Student projects, first-time productions, independent shorts and experimental pieces by young creatives.
How films are chosen
We choose films for artistic merit and their capacity to spark meaningful dialogue.
We look for identity and belonging, adventure and discovery across lived experience, and voices often marginalised in mainstream cinema.
Every screening is paired, where filmmakers are available, with a live Q&A or a recorded artist statement.
Free State work that meets the standard is given preference.
