Up to nine films: three features, four documentaries and two shorts, chosen for artistic merit and their power to start a conversation.

Screenings are paired, wherever filmmakers are available, with live Q&As or recorded artist statements, so audiences can engage directly with the storytellers.

  • Adventure and discovery across lived experience
  • Voices often marginalised in mainstream cinema

Films are sourced through an open call, so filmmakers put their own work forward. Free State work that meets the standard is given preference, because a festival that speaks for this region should screen the films this region is making.
